I offer high level advisory support for area wide or local programmes that seek to encourage more people to walk, cycle, use public transport or car share. Based on a 'vision-led' approach I am able to maximise the return on sustainable transport programmes, and ensure the buy-in of local communities at both the strategy development and delivery stage of projects.
I have held leadership roles in an award winning SME that thrived, through the development of a purpose driven and inclusive approach to the development of the business plan. My skills lie in shifting the focus of management from transactional to transformational, and my easy-going style will ensure advice is well tailored and suitable for all types and scale of business.
I am highly skilled in managing complex partnerships and delivering tangible benefits for all stakeholders. For example in my role Chairing the Nottingham Enhanced Bus Partnership I have galvanised the support of stakeholders across the public and private sectors to ensure local bus services in Nottingham continue to be one of the very best in the UK.
I have a strong track record of leading award winning transport strategies, from Local Transport Plans and Bus Service Improvement Plans through to National and Regional Strategy.
As a Visiting Professor at the University of West of England, I am well regarded as a leading researcher and academic, with specific expertise in the evaluation of travel behaviour change programmes. I was the lead author of the Department for Transport research into the effectiveness of Personal Travel Planning and Car Sharing Programmes, and have led many UK leading transport research projects over the last 30 years, covering quantitative and qualitative approaches.
I have been one of a relatively small number of professionals that for many years have been at the forefront of vision-led development planning, with a strong belief that to create sustainable places we need to move away from the old ways of forecasting traffic, and design our new communities around a new vision-led approach that engages communities in shaping the way their local area functions.
